Mr Peter Boorman
Peter has worked for the NHS for approaching 40 years, initially as a qualified registered general nurse working in busy Emergency Departments where he obtained operational experience of the acute hospital environment and was involved in managing and responding to many real and simulated major and CBRN incidents.
Taking an opportunity to focus his interest in health emergency preparedness, he transitioned into hospital emergency planning in 2002, where he took on responsibility for his hospital’s emergency response and CBRN preparedness, training and exercising. He moved to more strategic positions within the NHS and since 2016 has led the NHS England London regional EPRR team. This has included responding to and recovering from many major incidents affecting London and nationwide – including the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Uk terror attacks of 2017, the Grenfell tower fire in 2017, major cyber-attacks and Hazmat/CBRN incidents.
Since his original involvement in NHS CBRN operational planning in his early EPRR career, Peter has taken every opportunity to champion NHS CBRN preparedness and now leads the NHS England national CBRN work programme – linking in closely with colleagues on wider NHS aspects of the UK cross government national CBRN agenda. He is also a member of an international CT network, actively participating in groups focussed on CBRN and humanitarian response.
Outside of this he has charitable connections through his time spent as a trustee and is an active member of a community choir.
