Professor Natividad Carpintero-Santamaría (PhD) is currently responsible for the Non- Proliferation and Security area at the Instituto de Fusión Nuclear “Guillermo Velarde” (IFN GV) UPM, where she has been general secretary from 1982 to 2022. She is member of the Presidium of the European Academy of Sciences. She has been a member of the Advisory Board in the G8 Global Parnertship against the Proliferation of WMD and has participated in five working groups sponsored by NATO on Radiological and Nuclear Terrorism, being general secretary in two of them.

She has lectured on nuclear proliferation, nuclear and radiological terrorism and nuclear security to officers in the following Spanish Law Enforcement Institutions: 1) Ministry of Interior National Center for Antiterrorist Coordination and Civil Protection (CNCA) - Guardia Civil TEDAX NRBQ (CBRN Explosive Ordnance Disposal). 2) Ministry of Defence: Air Force Warfare College, Navy and General Military Academies and Centro Superior de Estudios de la Defensa Nacional (CESEDEN). She has represented the Spanish government at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) and other international institutions and has given conferences and courses in over 40 countries around the world.

Member of EuroDefense Spain (ED Spain), a non-profit association dedicated to the study of issues related to Security and Defense, as well as the presence and contribution of Spain to the needs of European Security and Defense. ED Spain is part of the Eurodefense network that includes 14 countries of the European Union.
