Colonel Major Mohamed Ataknit has held various leadership positions in Tunisia's National Office of Civil Protection (ONPC). He began as Head of Personnel Service in 1991 and later became Head of Legal Affairs in 2000. From 2002 to 2005, he served as Regional Director of Civil Protection for the Mannouba, Ben Arous, and Ariana governorates. In 2006, he became Deputy Director of Administrative Affairs, followed by Director of Personnel and Social Action in 2010. 

Ataknit took on the role of Director of Major Risks and Planning in 2012 and became Director of the National School of Civil Protection in 2013. He was appointed Director of Training in 2019 and Director of Social Action in 2021. Since 2022, he has served as National Director of Crisis Management and Studies. 

He has led several civil protection projects in collaboration with international partners, including France, Germany, and the European Union, and currently works as a Senior Expert of On-site Assistance for Southern Neighbourhood Countries for the EU Commission's DG-ECHO.
