With more than 35 years of experience in air monitoring, emergency response, and hazard mitigation across private consulting, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and New York’s critical infrastructure, Michael Gemelli has built a career at the forefront of CBRN preparedness. Beginning as a meteorologist and response scientist supporting EPA air monitoring, dispersion modeling, and national-level incident deployments, including 9/11 and multiple anthrax responses, Mr. Gemelli transitioned into senior roles within the MTA, where he now serves as Director of CBRN & WMD Detection & Mitigation. He leads policy development, detection system operations, interagency coordination, and
large-scale resilience projects designed to protect millions of daily transit riders. His work emphasizes technology integration, operational readiness, and collaborative,
whole-of-government approaches to reducing CBRN risk across complex urban environments.
