Mr Ian Tippett

Specialized CMX Officer, Interpol

Ian Tippett is a Specialised Officer with INTERPOL on the Chemical Explosive Terrorism Prevention Unit (CMX) with responsibility for Operational and Investigative Support, Capacity Building and Training to target terrorist and criminal activity regarding Chemical Warfare Agents, Toxic industrial Chemicals and Explosive Precursor Chemicals.

Previously, he was a London Metropolitan Police (Scotland Yard) Detective for over 30 years, involved in high profile investigations. One of the first team of UK Police Officers trained to use NBC (now CBRNE), by the military to respond to a chemical threat in London (1990/1991).

Deployed with the INTERPOL Incident Response Team (IRT) to assist and support the Sri Lankan Special Task Force with the investigation into the Easter Sunday Suicide Bombings, April 2019.
He has completed the FBI ‘National Improvised Explosives Familiarisation’ NIEF Course, and the Cranfield University UNSCR 1540 Enforcement Course.

He prepared and delivered presentations and numerous exercises to UK & Foreign Government Agencies for Major incidents and fatalities and Co-wrote the Nationally accepted CBRN-DVI Course.
Seconded as a DVI-CBRN Tactical Advisor responsible to Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) & CBRN Assets and deployments at the Olympic Park and Olympic Venues for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

He holds an MSc in Counter Terrorism and is a Member of the Chartered Society of Forensic Sciences (CSFS). He was elected as a Member the Security Institute (MSyI).
