Mr Brigadier General (Dr) Faizal bin Hj Baharuddin, Director of Health, Malaysian Armed Forces Health Services (MAFHS), Specialist in Public Health Medicine
Brigadier General (Dr) Faizal bin Hj Baharuddin is a highly accomplished military medical officer with over 32 years of service in the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF). He currently serves as the Director of Health, Malaysian Armed Forces Health Services (MAFHS), where he leads the strategic direction, policy development, and overall management of the Armed Forces’ health system, ensuring the highest standards of medical readiness and operational support across all services.
A registered specialist in Public Health Medicine under the National Specialist Register (NSR) of Malaysia, Brig Gen (Dr) Faizal brings extensive expertise in preventive medicine, occupational health, operational health planning, and military medical management. His professional career reflects a lifelong commitment to strengthening the health resilience and force protection of military personnel both in peacetime and during operations.
He holds a Master of Medicine (Occupational Medicine) from the National University of Singapore (1998) and a Master of Health Services Management from Monash University, Australia (2005) — academic achievements that highlight his integrated focus on clinical excellence and healthcare leadership.
Throughout his distinguished career, Brig Gen (Dr) Faizal has served in a variety of senior command and staff positions within the Malaysian Armed Forces Health Services. Notably, he was Commanding Officer of 96 Armed Forces Hospital Lumut (96 HAT Lumut), where he oversaw hospital operations and led critical health support activities for naval personnel and their families.
During Malaysia’s national COVID-19 pandemic response, Brig Gen (Dr) Faizal played a pivotal leadership role in the coordination of vaccine logistics, establishment of vaccination centres, and implementation of containment and health protection measures across the Malaysian Armed Forces. His efforts ensured safe and efficient vaccine rollout and sustained operational readiness throughout the crisis.
Beyond his operational responsibilities, he has been deeply involved in health policy development, professional training, and medical leadership initiatives within the defence sector. His strategic vision and dedication have significantly contributed to advancing the Armed Forces’ capabilities in public health preparedness, medical response, and healthcare governance.
