Lieutenant Mark Torre joined the NYPD in January 2019 and has performed a variety of assignments before being placed in his current position as the Commanding Officer, NYPD Bomb Squad, where he has served for over 18 years. Prior to that he served as the Commanding Officer, Arson & Explosion Squad for two years and as a Sergeant/Supervising Bomb Technician for 8 years having originally assigned to the Bomb Squad in 1993. His combined experience in both the investigative and operational aspects of bomb work comprises 27 of his 34 years as a member of the NYPD. He has been personally involved with numerous significant bombing cases in NYC to include the World Trade Center bombing in 1993, attempted car bombing of Times Square in 2010 and the Chelsea bombing in 2015. Lieutenant Torre also currently serves as one of three Northeast Region representatives to the National Bomb Squad Commanders’ Advisory Board.
