Qatar National Committee for the Prohibition of Weapons (NCPW)
Believing in the importance of achieving international peace and security, the State of Qatar was keen to rapidly accede to conventions on banning weapons of mass destruction. The National Committee for the Prohibition of Weapons (NCPW) was established in in 2004 as a standing committee at the Ministry of Defense , to be a national authority entrusted with the task of the implementation of international conventions on Weapons of Mass Destruction,
The National Committee membership includes one representative from each of the following ministries and bodies:
Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Energy and Industry, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Municipality and the Environment, Cabinet’s General Secretariat, Hamad Medical Corporation, General Authority of Customs.
Since its establishment, the NCPW has managed to accomplish many achievements and events at both local and international levels. The year 2012, was the most important year as it witnessed the inauguration of Doha Regional Centre for CBRN Training. The Centre is considered the first of its kind in the Middle East region.
